An independent punk, ska and cumbia festival in Playa del Carmen, born from the DIY spirit of Pouzza Fest (Montreal) and built to bring the underground scenes of Canada and Mexico together. It’s the first time the festival comes to Mexico.
Pouzza Fest was born in downtown Montreal in 2011 and, fifteen years later, is still one of the most consistent DIY gatherings in North American punk, with more than 150 bands every year. Pouzza del Carmen is the first time that spirit crosses the border: a sister festival built with the same independent approach, but with a Mexican accent — cumbia and ska alongside punk, beaches and rooftops instead of concert halls.
The idea is simple: use music to build a real bridge between the underground scenes of Canada and Mexico, not just bring bands on tour. The festival is organized by Hugo Mudie, founder of Pouzza Fest, and Ty Trumbull. An interview with both of them offers the fullest picture of why the festival chose Mexico and what this first edition means.
Regional and local bands: Ansiedad, Naufragio, Los Wornaut, Hipogrifos, Ribendel, Brigada Esperanza and more. See the full lineup.
Six stages across beaches, rooftops, a pool and downtown clubs, with late-night shows every night. The Big Hug package is the most complete way to do it: three nights at the Hyatt Centric, breakfast, a buffet lunch and 12 beers at the beach stages, a 3-day pass to the beach stages, plus the rooftop, pool and club shows. This price is only available until the end of October; it may go up starting in November. The High Five is a 3-day pass to the main festival grounds, and limited single-day tickets may be released closer to the festival.
As a preview of the festival, Pouzza del Carmen and Fat Wreck Chords present The Sainte Catherines, the Montreal punk band, back in Mexico for the first time in 20 years: three shows in three cities, with local bands at every stop. It’s the first big press moment before March 2027.
Pouzza del Carmen is an independent punk, ska and cumbia festival debuting March 12–14, 2027 in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. Born from the DIY spirit of Pouzza Fest (Montreal), it brings Canadian and Mexican bands together on the city’s beaches, rooftops and clubs, with the mission of building bridges between the underground scenes of both countries.
