GrimSkunk formed in Montreal in 1988 out of the local post-hardcore band Fatal Illness and played its first show in April 1989. Their first demo, Autumn Flowers, came out two years later. Along with B.A.R.F., Anonymus and Groovy Aardvark, they were among the first bands of Quebec’s alternative scene to tour the province.
In 1997, the band and Franz Schuller founded Indica Records, an independent DIY label built to support Quebec’s underground. Indica brought acts like Tryo, La Rue Kétanou, La Ruda and Tagada Jones to Quebec and had success with local bands such as Les Trois Accords and Vulgaires Machins.
After the change of direction on Seventh Wave (2002), Fires Under the Road (2006) brought them back to their roots, and they released Unreason in the Age of Madness in 2018. More than 35 years in, they’re still one of the bands that built Quebec punk.

For me, GrimSkunk is one of those Canadian punk bands that has always existed, up there with SNFU and D.O.A.
They’re a band that has always reached further than anyone expected. They’re adventurous and unafraid, and they still write catchy-ass songs that remind you why being young is vital and getting old is important.
I can’t wait to bring them to Mexico.
